Glossary of Terms for Convertible Soft tops:

Boot:

The Boot is a protective cover for when the soft top is in the down position. It protects the top from sun, wind and dirt. The Boot will attach as the factory original boot did. It comes with the same snaps or fastening system attached as the factory top does. Consider purchasing a Boot bag when you order a new boot to help add life and protection to your Convertible top storage boot.

Cables:

The Cables run through the side seams of the convertible top. They provide tension to the sides of the top. In some vehicles there are more then one set of or type of cable. It is recommended to replace the cables when you replace your top as old cables can become stretched out over time.

Headliners:

The Headliner is located on the inside of the convertible top. It was introduced for newer model cars but may be available for older models (as a non original part) as well.

The Headliner covers the metal bows, frame and components of the Convertible soft top. The benefit of a headliner is to provide some sound deading, added insulation and for a cleaner appearance. All headliners are made from the original reproduction materials.

Pads:

The Pads are typically made of cloth or vinyl and cover the cables. The protect the Canvas fabric from bring rubbed and pinched by framework and cables when the top is raised and lowered. It is recommended to replace your pads when you replace a top to provide the optimum amount of protection for your new top.

Rear Curtain:

The rear curtain is the Back window area. This can be a glass or plastic window and some may even zip out. Most tops are a 2 piece top consisting of a front top and a rear curtain. The Rear curtain will include the glass or plastic window depending on the application. Cars that have a 1 piece top will not need an additional Rear Curtain, as it will already be part of the 1 piece top.

Well Liner:

The Well Liner is a piece that is hidden from view. On most all convertible tops, the soft top will fold down into a cavity behind the rear seat. The Well liner lines that space and adds protection to the top. It often collects dirt and debris so it’s recommended to change out the Well Liner when replacing your top to help preserve your new top from wear and tear and scratches due to possible dirt and debris in the Well Liner.  If your well liner is not installed properly, it may interfere with the top functioning correctly- it may not fold completely down into the Cavity.
